Ovarian cysts are divided into several types, such as dermoid cysts and endometrioma cysts. The following causes of some type of ovarian cyst that most often appears in women.
1. Follicular cyst
When a woman’s menstrual cycle goes, the egg will grow in a bag called a follicle. Generally, this bag will open and eject eggs. However, under certain conditions, the bag does not open. This will then trigger a buildup of fluid in the follicle, which can develop into cysts in the ovary.
2. Corpus Luteum cyst
If the bag does not disappear even after the egg has been released, a buildup of fluid can occur in it. This buildup of fluid causes the formation of corpus luteum cysts.
In addition to the two types above, here are other types of ovarian cysts that you need to know about.
Dermoid cyst. These cysts grow in the shape of a bag filled with hair, fat, and other tissues.
Cystadenoma. This type is a type of non-cancerous cyst that can form on the outside of the ovary.
Endometrioma. Tissue that normally grows in the uterus, can form outside the uterus and then attach to the ovaries, so cysts form.
